New water repellent sheepskin process
Fenland Tans, a sheepskin tannery based in Somerset, UK, has developed a new process to add water repellency to sheepskin. The new all-weather material is called AquaLamb, and a new company by the same name has been set up to market and sell it. The producers are hoping that AquaLamb will open the door for sheepskin apparel to be used in all manner of outdoor pursuits formerly off limits.
Work is underway on a first collection of garments using AquaLamb in a collaboration with Womenswear UK Fashion Export Award Winners Karl Donaghue Ltd. which will be exhibited at London Fashion Week, February 2003.
