Kazakh GDP up 10.7% in Q1
Kazakhstan's GDP grew 10.7% year-on-year to 774.3 billion tenge in the first quarter of 2002, according to figures from the National Statistics Agency. The agency said there was growth of 12.1% in industry, 10.5% in construction, 5.5% in agriculture, 10.5% in transport and communications, and 9.1% in trade.
Industry contributed 30.1% of GDP. The GDP deflator index, which reflects price inflation throughout the economy as a whole, was 105.3% in the quarter compared to the same period of 2001, including 97.4% in production of goods, and 111.5% in the service sector. The government has forecast that GDP will rise 7% to 3.499 trillion tenge in 2002.
