Lithuania liberalises agricultural trade with EU

21/05/2002

Starting from June 1 of this year the European Union and Lithuania plan to liberalise trade in agricultural products. The liberalisation will include most agricultural products including fresh and processed vegetables and fruit, juices, fresh and processed meat products.

It is believed that that export compensations and import duties (within quotas) will be cancelled for wheat, rye and oats, beef, veal and mutton, dairy products and molasses. Lithuania hopes to become a full member of EU as soon as 2004.
