US consumers turn to patriotic colour choices - BASF
According BASF Corporation, the US consumer’s preference for red, white and blue products has surged since September 11, with cars, footwear and apparel being the most visible symbols of their solidarity.
But while Americans are still buying red, white and blue for their wardrobe, they are now beginning to put those colours together in new combinations, the company says.
"After September 11, we saw this explosion of patriotism – everybody went out and embraced it," says BASF’s fashion colour expert Tristine Berry. "People all over the country were wearing American flags, stars and stripes. Today, red is still one of the hottest colours in the stores." But now, she explains, "Red is shown with white in new ways. For instance, look for large, red florals printed on white backgrounds."
Also popular says Berry is a nautical look that evokes red and white, and blue and white, in a new way, with red and blue stripes cut with white. Berry says she believes nautical themes and a blue, retro '70s look will predominate in the rest of the year.
