Footwear companies flock to Wenzhou City
Footwear companies from across China are beginning to see Wenzhou – dubbed the "shoe capital of China" – as the ideal location for production, according to a local newspaper report. Shoe trading companies have been setting up marketing offices in Wenzhou over recent years, and now more shoe-making factories are considering building up their production capacity in the city.
The mayor of Wenzhou, Mr. Qian xing zhong, said that demand is very high for locations near the zone of shoe production, adding that he believes a number of companies based in Shanghai are considering setting up production facilities in Wenzhou. He mentioned one company from Shanghai which had set up a trial production run in Wenzhou in 1996. The firm now has an annual output of 30 million yuan ($3.63 million) with two modern production lines imported from Taiwan after six years of operation.
