Sadesa moves into upholstery

10/05/2002

Argentinean tanner Sadesa has set up a sofa cover factory at its Esperanza industrial unit in the Santa Fe Province. The production facility uses leather which is produced in the same unit, and makes sofa covers for export to the US furniture industry.

The new activity started in August 2001 and is seen as an important boost to regional economic development in the area, also providing employment for 82 local people – a number which should increase to 140 in the next few months. The company has recently set up a new cutting and sewing section in Esperanza and said it intends to keep opening new markets for manufactured goods thereby generating more new jobs.

Dr. Mario de Pro, Sadesa’s industrial relations manager, said: "although there is high risk involved in this endeavour due to market complexity and changing economic conditions, we are strongly committed to help the country's industry".
