Upmarket Indian leather goods label Hidesign is to set up a chain of retail stores around the world according to newspaper reports. The new stores will be set up by Hidesign Retail International, which was recently created.

Hidesign already sells around 80% of its products abroad through a distribution network which includes south east Asia, UK, Dubai, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and Sri Lanka.

The expansion plans include stores in South Africa, Shanghai, Beijing, Dubai and Moscow by the end of 2002. The company said there will be a focus on airports and joint ventures. Hidesign also said it will manufacture synthetic leather by next year and will increase the number of domestic stores from 14 to 20.
