CIS countries to grow by 4.5% in 2002
According to a report carried out by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), joint economic growth of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is estimated at 4.5% in 2002 and 4.6% in 2003. The figures were part of the IMF’s World Economic Outlook, published in April.
Excluding Russia, average GDP growth in the CIS member countries is estimated at 4.7% in 2002 and 4.1% in 2003. In terms of rankings, Uzbekistan is somewhat behind the rest of the CIS with estimated growth levels at only 2.2% for 2002 and 3% for 2003. By contrast to the IMF estimates, the Uzbek government's own average annual GDP growth rates are forcast at 6-8% for 2002-2010.
According to the same report, consumer prices in the CIS countries will grow by 13.4% in 2002 and 10.5% in 2003. For Uzbekistan consumer price inflation is estimated at 22.2% in 2002 and 13.5% in 2003.
