US footwear and apparel company Genesco has announced the appointment of Hal Pennington to the position of chief executive officer with immediate effect. Mr Pennington already fulfilled the roles of president and chief operating officer at the Tennessee-based company.

Chairman Ben Harris previously held the title of chief executive officer, but will now focus on Genesco's overall strategic direction. Mr Harris said that the move was consistent with the company’s leadership succession plans.
