Turkish footwear company Muya Production has established a production plant in the town of Petushky near Moscow. The new factory, built on former transportation company premises, required some $8 million investment and will produce 20,000 pairs of sandals a year.

The Turkish share of the Russian footwear market is currently only 5% of the 200 million pairs consumed each year. Around 50% of shoes sold in Russia now come from mainland China. Production at Muya’s new plant is expected to commence in July, 2002.
