WTO chief urges Russia to join
Mike Moore, head of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), has placed pressure on Russia to join the international body, promising a new schedule and calling on politicians to double their efforts. Without the former superpower, Mr Moore said, the WTO could not consider itself to be truly a world organisation. He was speaking during the fifth Russian economic forum, which took place in London on Friday, April 19.
While insisting the political will existed both within and outside Russia to bring the country into the WTO, Mr Moore promised that in the coming months that the WTO would establish a more concrete schedule for Russia's entry. Among the benefits of Russian membership outlined were further progress in implementing reforms and Russia's full integration into the international trading system.
