US leather retailer posts 7.6% decline in March revenues
The US leather apparel and accessories retailer, Wilsons The Leather Experts, has reported its same-store sales fell 7.6% in March. This compares to a 7.9% increase in comparable store sales for the four weeks ended April 7, 2001. The figure includes the company’s El Portal travel accessories business, but not its Bentley's Luggage stores.
Comparable-store sales at El Portal and Bentley's Luggage were down 33..7%, reflecting the general weakness in the travel industry, the company said. Within the company’s core Wilsons leather business, same-store sales decreased 5.1%. Total corporate sales were up 7% to $44.6 million.
