British leather, textiles and clothing output down 3.2% to February

09/04/2002
Figures released today by the United Kingdom's Office of National Statistics show that the production of leather, textiles and clothing fell by 3.2% in the three months to February 2002, while clothing and footwear output declined by 5.2%.

The figures were recorded against the backdrop of a 1.4% decrease in manufacturing output during the same period. Despite the fact that manufacturing output increased by 0.4% during February 2002 - the first month on month increase since August 2001 – the expected rebound failed to materialise, leaving the year-on-year fall at 5.8% against expectations of a 5.6% decline.
