Oltin Deri steps up production in Uzbekistan
The Uzbek-Turkish joint venture Oltin Deri, set up to manufacture leather products in Andijan, expects to produce goods worth 1 billion soums this year, an expansion over the production value of 600 million Uzbek soums for the previous year. (696 soums = 1 US$)
Tulkinbek Kuchkarov, the director of the joint venture, said the firm produced goods worth 83.7 million soums in January 2002 - almost twice the value produced in January 2001. He also said that in the near future the company plans to start a rated capacity with annual processing of 450,000 pieces of leather.
According to Kuchkarov, the joint venture has been thoroughly prepared for an increase in the volume of manufacture and a retail outlet has also been opened in Andijan to sell manufactured products. The joint venture currently employs around 200 local staff, all of which have been fully trained.
