Leather production doubles in the Philippines
Although overall manufacturing output in the Philippines fell by 0.5% in January 2002, production of leather products surged by 106.7% according to the national statistics office (NSO). The slight aggregate fall was still an improvement over the previous month of December, when manufacturing output fell 11%.
The NSO report said that food manufacturing as well as production of transport equipment, tobacco, non-electrical machinery and rubber goods improved from the previous month and posted double-digit rises in January.
