Makouros of Brazil producing Dupont`s Leather with Lycra

26/03/2002

Brazilian tannery Makouros has begun production of Stretch Leather with Lycra through an exclusive agreement with Dupont Apparel and Textile Sciences. The company is now planning to step up production following its successful first public showing at Sao Paulo Fashion Week 2002.

Makouros, based in Estância Velha in the Vale do Sinos region (the largest finished leather producing and exporting cluster in Brazil), is one of only three tanneries in the world manufacturing the material. (See leatherbiz.com, January 30, 2002, "Din Leather to produce leather with Lycra ").

Production of Stretch Leather with Lycra at Makouros is the result of over 12 months work following an operational agreement signed between the tannery and Dupont/Lycra. Stretch Leather with Lycra now accounts for 20% of the factory’s total production capacity, which is over 100,000 square metres per year of bovine leather, goatskins and sheepskins.
