Italy: Sales of leather goods up in 2001

The Italian leather goods industry posted sales of Eur2.5 billion in 2001 - 4-6% higher than in 2000, according to Aimpes (the Italian association of leather goods manufacturers). The association said that sales so far in 2002 were not particularly high, but expressed confidence that things would increase later in the year.

Total exports were up 13% to Eur1.7 billion for the first 10 months of 2001, with sales to the US up 10.7%, Switzerland up 37.5% and France, up 32%.
