Pakistan’s livestock sector boosted by EU aid
Pakistan's ministry of food, agriculture and livestock is to receive $20 million in aid from the European Union (EU) over the next six years for livestock projects in Pakistan. The agreement was signed on Saturday, March 16, 2002, by the EU ambassador Kurt Juul and Nawid Ahsan, secretary for economic affairs, and overseen by Khair Mohammad Junejo, the minister for food, agriculture and livestock.
The money will be used to develop Pakistan’s livestock sector, improving services, eradicating diseases such as rinderpest, and foot-and-mouth disease, and starting a vaccination programme. In its first year, the aim is to strengthen organisational structures, carry out research and set up a reporting system and central database.
