Uzbekistan continues growth in 2001
Uzbekistan's industrial output grew by an impressive 8.1% in 2001 compared with 2000 with gross domestic product up 4.5% to 4.868 trillion sums ($7.01 billion). The figures were included in a report on socioeconomic development produced by the Uzbek economic and statistics ministry.
Split into sectors, production in consumer goods rose 10.9% to 1.33 trillion sums, gross agricultural production rose 4.5% to 2.09 trillion sums, and the construction sector increased 3.3% to 544.4 billion sums. Fixed capital investment totalled 1.19 trillion sums, up 3.7%. Other figures included were factory gate prices - up 42.2% year-on-year, and foreign trade - up 3.1% to $6.4 billion with exports accounting for 51%.
