Guangzhou city’s Haoban street, famous for supplying leather and footwear manufacturers with accessories, hardware and leather materials, is currently undergoing a transformation with an estimated 6 million yuan ($727,000) invested since last year by the local government.

Manufacturers from centres such as Wenzhou and Jinjiang rely on suppliers from Haoban street, including the ten top footwear companies (or "shoe kings") as named by the China Leather Industry Association. It is expected that the area will play an increased role following the completion of the building work.
