Pakistan: Leather exports for July 2001 – February 2002
Leather export statistics released by the Pakistan government for the eight months to February 28, 2002 show a mixed picture with some sectors increasing volumes while others suffered falls.
Exports of tanned leather for the eight-month period increased by 7.1% to $147.97 million, leather gloves by 19.1% to $29.65 million and footwear by 18.2% to $33.01 compared with the same period last year. However, exports of leather garments fell 15.3% to $226.25 million and leather manufacturing dropped by 14.4% to $6.68 million.
The month of February saw a drop in most types of leather exports compared with January. Tanned leather exports were down from $19.46 million to $13.79 million, leather garments were down from $19.12 million to $13.7 million, exports of leather gloves were up from $3.26 million to $3.9 million, while leather manufacturing was down to $376,000 from $1.15 million and footwear was down to $3.19 million from $6.47 million.
