Bayer reorganises to give greater autonomy for operating units
German chemicals group Bayer has continued the radical reorganisation of its management structure begun in December, 2001 at a supervisory board meeting last Thursday (March 7, 2002).
The new system will involve a holding company overseeing four individual operating units, with the chemicals and specialty chemicals divisions amalgamated as Bayer Chemicals. The group will operate under the new structure from July 1, 2002, but the changes will officially take effect from January 1, 2003.
The number of board members at the holding company has been reduced with the emphasis squarely on greater autonomy for the new operating divisions. Dr. Ulrich Koemm, general manager of the coatings and colorants (LS) business group at Bayer since April 1, 1999, has been named chairman of the new Bayer Chemicals subsidiary.
