Wilsons Leather: sales fall 17.3% in February
Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc. reported comparable sales for the four weeks ending March 2, 2002 decreased 17.3%. With new stores added, sales still fell 4.8% to $44.6 million as compared with $46.9 million for the same period in 2001.
The specialty retailer of leather outerwear, apparel and accessories and travel goods said that the continuing warm weather and a weak travel market had contributed to the decline. The statement also noted that the end of February and beginning of March sales had started to pick up, something not clearly shown in the figures.
