SATRA membership hits 1,500
UK technology centre SATRA gained over 100 new members in 2001 to push numbers over the 1,500 mark. The testing and research institute now has members in some 70 countries, reflecting the increasing shift to manufacturing in the Far East for industries such as footwear, clothing, leather products and furniture.
Countries such as Italy, China, Taiwan, Germany and Spain remain major markets for SATRA, with new growth reflected in the Turkish and Egyptian markets. In fact, the Egyptian footwear industry became a SATRA group member last year.
While footwear remains SATRA's prime membership market, there has been si
gnificant growth among other consumer industries. SATRA last year attracted 83 new members from the footwear sector ― including nine in the leather industry ― together with 15 from the furniture industry and five from the clothing sector.
