Italy: Producer prices for leather and leather products up 3.1% in January

Producer prices for leather and leather products fared better than most sectors in Italy during January.

Producer prices rose on average by 0.1% in January compared with December but fell 1.2% year-on-year according to statistics office ISTAT.

Year-on-year variations in producer prices showed leather and leather products up 3.1%, processed non-metalliferous minerals, up 3.0%, while electricity, gas and water prices fell 10.5%. Oil derivatives also fell 8.5% while chemical products and artificial and synthetic fibres fell 2.7%.

Retail sales in Italy rose 1.6% year-on-year in December, with footwear, leather and travel goods, up 2.3% pharmaceuticals, up 2.5% and food, up 2.4%.
