27/02/2002

Ukraine is stepping up efforts to raise standards in livestock production to EU levels with a pilot project to be carried out in Lvov. The Academy of Veterinary Medicine in Lvov has signed an agreement with Vienna University to create a model complex for the development and introduction of effective technologies in livestock production according to European standards. The project will be also benefit from some financial assistance from the EU.

Ukraine’s ministry of agriculture has also promised to pay farmers who reared and sold cattle of higher weight categories (more than 375 kg) for which they should have received state subsidies. Last year’s debt will be repaid with the help of money from the 2002 budget.
