Poland: Retail sales of footwear up 35.7% in January 2002
According to figures released by Poland’s governmental statistical service, GUS, retail sales in January 2002 rose by 4.7% compared with the previous year. Up particularly sharply were sales in apparel and footwear - 35.7% higher.
Poland’s unemployment problems continue, however, with a rise in those looking for work. According to GUS figures for January, unemployment has reached record levels, increasing to 3.25 million people, or 18%.
