PTA holds seminar on environmental issues

21/02/2002

The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) recently organised a seminar on "Pollution Control in Tanneries in Punjab" to discuss environmental issues and educate tanners about the problems of environmental pollution in leather production.

Speakers talked about different methods available for dealing with waste products including the latest technological advances. Researchers, academics and government officials participated along with tannery managers and other leather industry people.

The PTA used the opportunity to call for subsidies for tanneries to set up their own effluent treatment operations, a message echoed by M.A. Saleemi, former director-general of Pakistan’s Environmental Protection Agency.
