Presidency Kid Leather opens new plant
The inauguration of Presidency Kid Leather’s new calf leather tannery at the Kannivakkam complex in Tamil Nadu State, India took place on January 31, 2002.
The extensive purpose-built facility features state-of-the-art equipment for production of quality calf leathers. Phase one production is due to commence in late February with the new plant handling 500,000 square feet per month, which will gradually be increased up to the full potential of 1,500,000 square foot per month.
The investment in new plant was made to address changing patterns in production demands and advances in technology. Improvements in hide care, leather making technology and commercial necessity have redefined the term "calf". Sizes averaging up to even 25 square foot have been accepted in this category.
Demand for kid and calf leathers is finely balanced – as demand for one increases, so demand for the other falls. The new calf leather production facility is therefore the ideal supplement to the company’s kid supply - its core business. PKL is established as a prime manufacturer of glace kid leathers with a production rate of 1,000,000 square foot per month in the existing separate facility at Kannivakkam.
