Sheen process re-marketed as CareFree Leather
CareFree Leather is the new brand name for a process to produce washable leather and suede, developed by Sheen LLC in Eagle, Idaho. Formerly known as the 'Sheen process', the marketing and global distribution of the product has now been handed over to Canadian distributor All About Technologies (AAT).
An alternative to conventional protective spray coatings, the process is applicable to all leathers, suedes and shearlings for all end uses, from sportswear, swimwear and outerwear to footwear and upholstery. According to AAT, CareFree Leather maintains a sensuous leather look and feel that won’t crack, dry, fade or stiffen when exposed to the elements. The process is also said to be more environmentally friendly than other treatments, giving leathers that are washable, breathable, waterproof, flame-resistant, and colourfast, rendering protective spray coatings unnecessary.
Charles Zuckerman, president of AAT, said: "Washable leathers aren’t new. But CareFree Leather has been tested by a variety of respected leather retailers and manufacturers alike, and when they see the results, they say ‘wow.’"
