28th International Fur Goods Exhibition underlines China’s importance in fur trade
The 28th International Fur Goods Exhibition, which ended on Jan 19, 2002, represented the largest exhibition of fur, skin fur goods held in China since 1973. Participants at the event in Beijing were mainly from abroad, predominantly the US, Europe, Russia, Australia and Japan.
According to statistics released by the event’s organisers, China now imports 5 million pieces of mink and 1.5 million pieces of fox skin each year – accounting for 40% of the world supply.
Mr. Lee Weiqin, general manager of China Fur Goods Import & Export Co., Ltd. said that in 2001 the value of the exports and imports of furs, fur garments and other fur goods was around $600 million, around $420 million in exports and slightly more than $170 million in imports.
