One of Pakistan's leading leather/garment exporters, Din Leather (Pvt) Ltd. has signed an agreement with Dupont Apparel and Textile Science (ATS) Ltd for the first leather with Lycra license in the Asia Pacific region.

Speaking at a press conference to announce the news, Asif Ikram, chief executive of DuPont Pakistan, said: "We are proud to bring new technology to Pakistan which will not only add to the revenue of both companies - Din Leather and DuPont Pakistan - but would also add to the foreign exchange earnings of the country."

Mujeebullah Khan, senior manager at Dupont ATS, said that the new product would propel Pakistan's leather manufacturing into the high end of the retail market. He added that Din Leather had become the first Lycra authorised manufacturer in Pakistan as a part of continuous innovation and technology transfer process with the country.

Mr Khan explained the advantages of leather with Lycra, saying that the combination gives a blend of the stretch and recovery attributes of Lycra while retaining the unique qualities of leather. The resulting garments can be designed to conform to the wearer’s figure, while offering enhanced freedom of movement. Leather with Lycra products therefore retain the characteristic look and feel of leather, but are significantly more comfortable and, importantly, retain their original shape after repeated wearing.

Din Group chairman S M Munir said that the partnership with DuPont would provide "the opportunity to expand" and gives the Pakistan leather industry a platform to enter new products segments and retail markets normally captured by European countries.
