EU reclassifies countries affected by BSE
A report from the EU’s Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) has given a series of opinions on Transmissible/Bovine Spongiform Encephalophaties (TSE/BSE) related matters. The Committee, which advises the European Commission, has changed its assessment of geographical BSE risk (GBR) in view of recent cases of the disease.
The scientists now classify Austria, Finland, Slovenia as GBR III level (BSE confirmed at lower level) and propose the same risk level for Japan and Greece. Existing GBR-reports will be revised accordingly and GBR reports for Greece and Japan are under preparation.
