The growing importance of trade between China and India has been emphasised by a visit to India by delegates from the Guangzhou International Exhibition and Trade Centre in China. The Centre is a permanent facility for foreign companies to promote exports to China and the delegation was keen for Indian businesses to participate, according to newspaper reports. The International Exhibition and Trade Centre has invited around 138 countries to exhibit as imports and exports increase between China and the outside world.

The Chinese delegation visited the Surat Special Economic Zone in India and discussed trade in leather, textiles and other products. Estimates put imports to China over the next five years as rising to $2,000 billion. The installation of an Indian pavilion at the Centre in Guangzhou could attract around $240 million worth of trade for India in its first year, according to its organisers.
