Tannet set to continue work
The Tannet (tannery network) project – an initiative from the European tanning industry supported by the EU - plans to continue its work despite the fact that its programme officially finished on January 7, 2002. The latest Tannet newsletter (January, 2002) celebrated the successful workshops organised in 2001 and maintained there was a consensus among members that the organisation’s work should continue.
Central to the existence of Tannet is its ability to win EU funding for projects, and the record is impressive. At this stage, Tannet has initiated about 20 proposals to EU Programmes with over 50% approved by the European Commission. According to the newsletter, core group members have discussed future ideas for proposals and there is a possibility of winning further financial support from the EU’s Growth-Programme and EESD programme (Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development).
Tannet was set up to develop environmental research priorities and disseminate information on relevant R&D programmes and projects via workshops, leaflets, studies and reports - and in particular via a web page administered by COTANCE (The Confederation of National Associations of Tanners and Dressers of the European Community).
