New Zealand: slide continues in skin prices

14/01/2002

World prices for New Zealand’s export commodities fell for the fourth consecutive month in December according to a report from banking and financial services group ANZ. The largest decline was in skins, which fell 17.2% compared with November. Skin prices have fallen sharply since a peak in August, and in the report this was put down to large stocks being held by tanners in Asia.

The ANZ World Commodity Price Index is produced monthly and showed an overall drop of 2.2% during the month of December, 2001, leaving it 3.3% lower than at the end of 2000.
