Italian luxury goods house Prada recorded sales of Eur1.75 billion ($1.56 billion) in 2001, up 7% from the previous year. Out of total sales the Prada and Miu Miu brand names accounted for Eur1.35 billion, a rise of 3% of last year, partly thanks to impressive performances in the US market in December where sales were up 22%.

In a statement the company admitted that there had been a slowdown in sales immediately following the tragic events of September 11, but said that the increase in sales occurred in the eight months prior to the terrorist attacks and that sales reached good levels again in December.
