Brazil’s shoe and leather sector grows by 5% in 2001
Figures from Brazil’s national footwear association Abicalcados (Associacao Brasileira da Industria de Calcado) suggest that the sector grew by 5% in 2001.
Turnover was up to $10 billion, with 620 million pairs of shoes produced. Exports were up 4% to $1.613 billion from $1.547 billion with the US as the main destination, accounting for 68% of all exported footwear. The next most important market for Brazilian footwear producers is Argentina, where $128.2 million of goods were sold.
