Pakistan government acts on tax exemption for leather imports

09/01/2002

Pakistan’s Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has announced new rules allowing those exporting leather goods to enjoy exemption of tax on the import of raw hides used in manufacturing.

The amendment of January 4, 2002 allows exporters requiring leather materials for manufacture can now get sales tax exemption under the Customs Rules 264-278 instead of the system previously established on November 24, 1996 with SRO 1319.

Those materials that will be tax-exempt include raw and pickled hides and skins, wet blue hides and skins, finished leather and accessories, components and trimmings for leather manufacturers.
