Australian Wool Innovation has advised that it will convene four Strategic Planning Forums in March 2002 as part of the development process for its Strategic Plan 2002 – 2005.

AWI Managing Director, Col Dorber said the planning forums would be open to all wool producers and cover the following four areas:

Forum 1: Innovative wool production – expectations, threats, opportunities;
Forum 2: From wool harvest to designer’s door – quality at lower cost.
Forum 3: Product pull – seeing the consumer world as wool’s oyster?
Forum 4: Research interfaces and frontiers – can science achieve big changes for wool?

Mr Dorber reinforced that AWI is committed to undertaking wide and practical consultation with industry in the development of the Strategic Plan.

"The planned forums will be in addition to our ongoing interaction with producers, processors, industry stakeholders and organisations and will allow us to openly discuss a range of areas that impact on the development of the Strategic Plan.

"It is an ideal opportunity for AWI to actively consider the role of research, development and innovation in achieving change in a number of complex areas."

AWI says more details will be provided when the forums are advertised in February 2002, along with a call for written inputs. Letters are to be sent to as many industry enterprises and organisations and research groups as possible, within Australia and overseas.
