07/01/2002

The German chemicals giant BASF has advised that it has completed its share buy-back programme as planned in 2001. The company used Eur1.3 billion ($1.15 billion) to buy back a total of 30,775,000 shares at an average price of Eur42.22 per share. This corresponds to approximately 5 percent of BASF's share capital.

Of the repurchased shares, 25,975,000 have already been cancelled. The company says it is also planning to cancel the remaining 4,800,000 shares, thereby reducing its share capital.
