Prospects good for Brazil’s tanners in 2002
Amadeu Fernandes, vice-president of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) has sounded a note of optimism for the industry by saying that the signs are good for 2002. While admitting that it is always difficult to predict the future, Mr Fernandes said he believed the market would see a period of greater balance and stability both in domestic and international spheres.
Rising exports and the arrival of winter collections also point to an increase in activity for tanners In many cases companies invested in sophisticated machinery during 2001 which should open the door for new markets and customers.
Mr Fernandes said: "keeping existing customers and searching for new markets should be every tanner's priority", adding that he thought 2002 would see the Brazilian tanning sector both recover its strength domestically and expand on foreign markets.
