CCCAP reports illegal shoe imports
The Peruvian Footwear, Leather and Allied Trades Chamber (CCCAP) claims that the country’s footwear sector is being decimated by illegal imports, predominantly from China. The Chamber has reported a local company to the authorities that it says has been importing products from China at dumping prices while avoiding tax payments.
The President of the CCCAP, Romulo Fernandez Medina, said that he produced evidence to the police of the overvaluation of Chinese goods entering Peru through local importers such as Empresas Comerciales SA, part of the BATA Group.
The Chamber says the Peruvian shoe sector is currently operating at 17% of its production capacity. Mr Fernandez has asked the National Congress to declare the Peruvian shoe sector in state of national emergency and temporarily suspend all shoe imports.
