Russia`s GDP to increase by 5.5%, inflation to stay within 18% in 2001
Russia’s finance minister Alexei Kudrin has said he believes the country’s growth for 2001 will be more than 5.5% when compared with 2000, and inflation will go no higher than 18%. The minister informed the press of the figures during a time when the 2002 budget is undergoing its final reading in the state Duma.
Mr Kudrin said that growth would probably be one of the highest in the world, allowing Russia to make up some ground on other countries. He claimed that the success was thanks to the cabinet’s ability to continue the positive trends of previous years.
