Russia and WTO member nations agree on tariffs on 80% of goods

18/12/2001

Russia has agreed tariffs on 80% of imports with members of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), according to Maxim Medvedkov, deputy economic development and trade minister and head of the Russian negotiating team. The minister was talking to a news conference following the latest round of talks.

Despite marked progress in talks, no understanding has been reached on basic goods such as medicines, cars and furniture, Medvedkov said. The next round of talks on goods and services and bilateral and multilateral consultations on agriculture will be held in the second half of January, at the same time as the next meeting of the working group on Russia joining the WTO.
