One of the first results of economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Austria was the Yangi Vega footwear factory joint venture. The operation currently produces 13 different types of footwear, mainly for boys, and has built up production from 41,000 pairs per annum in its first year to 163,000 in the first ten months of this year.

At first the operation imported all the raw materials from abroad, but that has gradually changed. Leather for the uppers now comes from Oltyn Teri, Keshkush, Janubiy Korea and only basic materials are imported from abroad. At present more than 170 workers are employed at Yangi Vega, but when running at full capacity that is expected to triple as production increases to 450,000 pairs per year.
