Pakistan`s PLGMEA invites US Ambassador to leather garment factory
The head of the Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PLGMEA), Fawad Ijaz Khan, has invited the US Ambassador to Pakistan, Ms Wendy Chamberlin, to visit a leather garment factory in Karachi.
In a statement he said that he hoped the visit would restore the confidence of US buyers and consumers in leather garments made in Pakistan. He also backed the US government in its war against terrorism in Afghanistan. However, he pointed out that the war has seriously affected the production and export of leather garments from Pakistan - especially to the US - with fewer orders being placed and others being cancelled.
Mr Ijaz Khan went on to say that December and January were important months as manufacturers and exporters make their collections for the next autumn/winter season and consequently a lot of buyers visit Pakistan.
He added: "In spite of our best efforts the American buyers are not coming to Pakistan and most of them are not making the collection of next year in Pakistan because of the prevailing situation." The statement blamed the electronic media was mainly responsible for creating a negative image about the country in general and the perception of its USA buyers as being unable to execute existing and future orders.
