The Peruvian export promotion agency Prompex has predicted that the country's exports of footwear will equal last year’s figure of $3 million, equating to 400,000 pairs. As of January, the country will also begin exports of leather footwear to Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Central America. Between January and October, Peru’s exports of shoes and related products increased by 50% year-on-year. In the same communication, the tanner Curtiembre El Porvenir was quoted as saying that the tanning sector was currently operating at only 50% capacity, equating to nearly 1.2 million pieces of leather.
