Timberland receives corporate philanthropy award
The Timberland Company was one of two recipients of the 2001 Annual Excellence in Corporate Philanthropy Awards this week. Along with IBM, the company received a formal presentation at the second annual awards dinner held in Washington, DC.
The awards are made to organisations that show exemplary practices in their philanthropic initiatives and demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the principles of corporate citizenship. Timberland was chosen for its commitment to community, which forms part of every aspect of the business.
One example is their Path of Service™ employee volunteer programme that at launch in 1992, gave each employee 16 hours of paid time to volunteer in his or her community. The programme was expanded to 40 hours in 1997 and has given over 200,000 hours of service in communities in 18 countries, 30 US states, 73 US cities and at more than 200 social service agencies.
