Wilson’s sales down by nearly a quarter in November

US leather goods retailer Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc. has reported that its comparable store sales were down by a massive 23.7% year-on-year during November, blaming a continuing softening in consumer confidence, spring-like temperatures which kept shoppers out of the malls and an exceptionally strong year-before figure to live up to.

Though net sales were up 9% from $86.1 million to $93.9 million year on year, this was due to the addition of the Bentley’s travel products and accessories outlet chain which was not included in the year ago results. In fact, the combined sales of Bentley’s and El Portal – another of Wilson’s travel products and accessories chains - were down by 30.6% during the month.
